ORD: inconsistent and rude service
His response was NO. He cannot guarantee that BUT he said it would be the last seat he would sell, as if he was selling them. Fair enough even though he was not the check in counter for selling seats but the gate agent!
So just as I was to board the RJ to YOW, I again asked but to the agent taking the tickets if my next seat on the RJ was still open and to my horror he said NO- taken, gone!!! What thoughtful service from my preferred airline I thought! Here I had flown for some 14k miles in J class on UAL to ORD, now I am being subjected to the worst possible service from the airline I am supposed to be respected and revered by! Bloody hell!
I was so incredibly upset but I proceeded to the waiting baby jet. I then sat waiting for someone to become my seat mate, totally dreading the ordeal, like what does SE status mean anymore?
For some reason, no one ever appeared, just as no one should have since the RJ was only at about 45% occupancy. I got my empty seat, and comfort level BUT I was needlessly put through pre flight trama.
For those of you who do fly a lot you will appreciate this kind of senario. Why cannot AC do like CP used to do, which is to simply block seats next to their best customers when possible. As far as I can make out, AC does not give a rats ... about its best customers care at all and this is not my first such experience.
This sort of experience plus the SARS panic which is just starting now to hit the industry, can only lead in one direction! Without better service considerations, many of us will simply not be flying much for a while.
Angela, Paul or Janice - the AC Concierge at ORD - are always at the AC desk in the departures area and will do almost anything for you.
WJ on the other hand has blocked a seat next to me many times (when the flights aren't packed, I often ask at checkin and have never been disappointed.
Flying WJ to YVR firday morning. Wonder Why?
Does WJ give you the opportunity to U/G when on the right fare and do they give you FF points?
I have often asked AC to keep a seat beside open and when feasible have gotten it--it depends who you ask and how you ask and when you ask(EG asking a gate agent when they are very busy boarding others is not the right time)
I too have flown WJ and after the tired jokes, some good,it is just an airline that gets you from A to B without much in the way of onboard service. They have their share of delays as well.
AC,when they come out of bankruptcy, hopefully with new staff attitudes and no union over protection could still be the airline it needs to be.
Yesterday I flew into ORD from Asia to connect to YOW. I politely informed the gate agent I was an SE and would very much appreciate an empty seat next to me due to my long travelling time. Could he block the seat for my compfort?

in the AC world when a gate agent says sell a seat they mean assign the seat to a person.
For example if there is a seat on the airplane where the audio doesn't work they will put a note in the header of the flight and say to sell that seat last.
Also just a thought did it maybe happen that when the gate agent heard the agent taking the tickets say to you that that seat was taken that they may have intercepted the person sitting next to you before they boarded and reassigned their seat and that is why noone came and sat next to you.

Is that all you have to complain about? Grow up.
Nice. Very nice. The complaint is VERY legit and I too was very happy to frequently get seats blocked by CP. The same beef goes for not being able to book exit rows. Simple stuff. I guess if AC pax want these things they'll have to pay for the "investment" that is required.
... Fair enough even though he was not the check in counter for selling seats but the gate agent!...
Then why did you ask him?
Obviously you do not fly much and as a new poster, I think your comment is totally out of line and inappropriate. When you grow up and start flying you will realize how important little considerations like an empty seat next to you really are!

First you said I disgusted you when there was a discussion about taking meal orders here:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum5/HTML/007926.html
Then you got pissed when someone was asking about what aircraft they'll be on here:

Then this thread.
That's 3 out of your 13 posts already.

While I think AC needs to do a better job, I think calling this "pre flight trauma" is a bit far-fetched.
This is an issue that continues to fester among elites with AC, and seems like such a simple thing to do. But RD claimed when asked by me last year that it would cost millions to reprogram their computers to block off seats as most other carriers do for their elites. I have been in the back on several flights where all three seats were occupied by Es and SEs, while scattered throughout the rest of the cabin were lots of empty middle seats.

I do ... and totally support your position.

No Parnel, I use the money I save from flying WJ and BUY the tickets I need. Often the saving frm 3 or 4 WJ flight = another ticket. Not to mention that aeroplan points are becoming worthless with all the new (and old) fees, it is a waste of money to collect and try and redeem aeropesos anymore. Obviously they don't have J, but neither do most AC flights from YWG!!. Only YYZ and YVR. (I understand the YVR is ending). All our new Tango and ZIp flights offer....ZIP.
Let AC die, let AC2 emerge with new staff, ideas, and motivation, and I will be back. Untill then, I book all my paid travel on other carriers.
Go BA.
Heck I try to choose a seat when upgrading that has the best chance of swinging me an empty seat beside me in J. There is no such thing as TOO MUCH PERSONAL SPACE when flying for a living.
Is that all you have to complain about? Grow up.
You know, it may not appear to be this biggest complaint about plane travel these days, however, if UA and AS can do it then at least AC could try to make the effort - even if their res system sucks big time in many respects. I can assure that I too would be upset if I had a seatmate next to me next week on my way to Singapore when the flight is only half full. If one flies alot, these benefits are important!
