new policy at LH service phone line

  • today i tried to get an upgrade for my next MUC-SFO trip on the LH SEN service line. in past it was enough to tell them my reservation code of the paid flight to get the upgrade (having more than enough upgrade coupons and miles http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ).

now they told me that i definitly need to tell my PIN to get this upgrade due to abuse of this service in past.

unfortunatly my pin is save at home where i'm only at the weekend. the woman at the phone line even denied to verify me by calling me back on my mobile phone, which number is stored in my LH profile.

anyone got the same experience? this is a big decrease in service of the usually excellent SEN service line http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif .

  • I have been asked for the PIN when upgrading and booking. For "lesser" requests such as asking for upgrade vouchers or seat assignments the PIN was not requested. However, sometimes the agent asks for the PIN even before you get to say what you want (similar to what curt says). My experiences are 50/50 for being asked or not. I don't feel inconvenienced since I memorized my PIN (and keep a copy in my Palm Pilot...). It is mainly an awareness thing, that you might actually need to know the number http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

  • curt, mizu,
it was my impression that in past you're right that it had been dependet on what person you called. now they told me it's a new rule without exceptions.

    rudi,
i agree that security requiring a PIN is a good part of the service. but where is the security leak if someone (who stoles my flight schedules with booking code http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif ) wants to upgrade me on my upgrade coupons? it will be no benefit for someone else! i totally agree for ordering some bonus flight on miles (and catch the postman with tickets), but not for upgrade on vouchers.

some intelligent flexibility (calling back on my mobile phone number stored in my profile) is what i prefer.

finally i will store another PIN on my palm http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

  • I consider asking for my PIN an improvement of my security and thus an improvement of LH's service quality.

  • TH, I had similar experiences with some of the FTL personell but it varies. I'd say that 1 out of 4 or 5 agents wants to have the PIN. Some before even accessing the profile, some when deducting the miles. Grüße von Hamburg nach Hamburg!
