Dream Sales

  • According to e-mails just in from KL in DK and S :

"Soon the Air France-KLM Dream Sale will start. From the 12th of August you can find great fares to destinations across Europe, America, the Far East and the Caribbean."

    Johan

  • KLM has the same policy - all this is indeed due to the fact that the UK market for flights seems to be the most competetive in Europe. And due to the fact that you can to most destinations non-stop from LON as well, any non-UK European airline will have to offer some bonus to get passengers on a flight with a European stop-over.

As well with KLM the flight conditions are usually more relaxed when booking from the UK - in the Netherlands a 7 day minimum stay is quite usual on highly discounted fares, in the UK a Sat/Sun night will do.

BTW: problem with KLM when flying to USA/Canada is that just about all flights leave early from Schiphol - due to the 1 hour time difference that means you'll have to take the 6:30AM flight to be able to connect  I've stayed overnight with friends/family in NL a few times to avoid getting up at 4AM, and that was when I lived relatively close to LHR...

I am always happy to learn that some fares are 30% cheaper if I depart from London instead of Paris (for long haul flights). This is of course something that www.airfrance.fr won't tell me :o

I don't know for KLM but I wouldn't be surprised if they had the same policy, targetting their best special offers on the most competitive markets.

  • Those fares have been on the site for quite some time now.

/EYes, but it can still be useful to register on different european sites. I am always happy to learn that some fares are 30% cheaper if I depart from London instead of Paris (for long haul flights). This is of course something that www.airfrance.fr won't tell me :o

  • Nothing from AF but 2 or 3 emails in 2005. KLM and AF don't seem to have taken joint steps for their promotional communication to the general public and to their best clients.

Launching of FB, dealing first with operational issues, network optimization, focusing more on the general public than on their frequent flyers, excellent traffic figures: They have other fish to fry...

Of course they have all my personal data and they know my travel habits perfectly well... I still have to chase the fares on their site. :(

  • I seem to get one weekly or fortnightly e-mail with offer fares ex-UK.. AF is always worldwide, and KL is always European only... None of the fares have been  though... but i haven't seen them posted, so will try and remember post them and the link for people to at least have the opportunity to look at...

:o Sorry i thought everyone was getting stuff like this :o

  • I think it's cool that you are getting these emails, but it sure would be nice if I could get them too! I'm pretty sure I'm on AF's email list as I get a message or two from them each year, but nothing like Johan is getting.

    Hi guys,

The way to get these is to register at individual KLM sites and then they send you the promotional fares originating from that destination. Simply go to the specific countries' website and enter your email to recieve promotional offers.

I got some excellent promotional fares from bombay (BOM) to lisbon and lisbon to accra (ACC) in this way. Worked out to 70% of the regular BOM-ACC-BOM fare and got to fly AMS-LIS-AMS on outgoing and return thereby seeing an additional city and earning additional miles and flights.

I get these too Johan from KLM UK, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands & Denmark from time to time.

I put it down to the fact that at one point I have booked a ticket on these country web sites (since you have to go to KLM.dk to book ex-Denmark).
