AC Service Good but Food slipping

  • Had my usual good service from staff. Lots of attention on red-eye and morning flights. Papers, water, food. Food and wine has slipped a bit though. Notice the little things--no lemon for the cold marinated chicken; no prawns etc. But still a good deal.

Just did a bunch of changes (I am really going to Mexico, not just passing through on the way to Canada this time) that were so easy for the remnants of a couple of MHDs. Changed dates and times of flights and GDL-MEX-ORD to GDL-ORD direct. A great loss in losing this travel alternative http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

  • I usually like the food AC serves. The wine I like...usually happy with all but the French choices.

Funny you mentioned that the food and wine is slipping.
I noticed on the the way back from MIA via YUL to YVR that the wine was either Mission Hill or something from Niagra.

Iam sure they both make fine wines, but it was not great by any stretch.
Is it to support a Canadian industry I wonder.

Fine in the back, but i would expect something a little better.

I was reading that Lauda Air are putting chefs on some of there Transatlantic flights.

  • Having flown both CP metal flight and AC metal flight between YVR & HKG last week, I think the catering on AC is a lot better than CP, I am quite happy with AC's international meal service. As for domestic flights, let's not talk about it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Never got the duck as a choice so far (always chicken, fish or beef).

No, Shareholder said duckling. I'm trying to envision that.

  • I realize wine is a matter of personal taste, but I for one believe AC is doing a very good job at selecting a good range of Ontario and BC wines for its domestic front cabin. These are usually paired with other new world wines from various countries, or somewhat bland French varietals and the occasional appelation controlée. On Intercontinental flights, I expect a bit more of an exceptional selection, but this too should include some of the best Canada has to offer. AC represents this country to non-Canadians who fly it, and thus its catering and wines should be more reflective of our country's culinary offerings. That was the direction CP was taking, and it would be nice if AC would recognize this too. Meals, for the most part, have been slipping of late. My best meal in over a dozen flights was a duckling lunch between YYZ and YEG. Most others have been underwhelming, and at least one steak had to be taken back twice before it was heated enough to eat. [Oh well, on 3008 three weeks ago, they didn't even have meals for all the J-class passengers and finally agreed to give us left overs from Hospitality Class.]

  • I am getting tired of chicken albeit presented in various forms. I would take duck for the change in menu. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif As for wines, there are some good Canadian ones. I agree AC should buy these and showcase them Heck they did it for movies...why not wine ?

  • I agree with Shareholder that Canadian wine should feature prominently on AC flights, domestic and international. This should not mean one should not have a choice, but it does truly irritate me when there is no Canadian selection on board (this was often the case with CP).

  • I have had some pretty good meals, mainly on the long haul, has anyone ever had the "scones" back on the LHR flight.!

Wow...that was so funny, they were a cross between muffins and bagels.

I must agree that its good to show case Canadian products to the tourist, so why not open that up a bit to private enterprise!.

Iam sure many business would welcome the chance to show of what they can do, and it may bring up the expectation of passengers, help AC stand out, and lower cost...

    Example.

    Tim Hortons Coffee
    Tim Horton Muffins/donuts
    Molson
Have the AC and CP crews go at hockey style, instead of the film.
Sell first nation products in duty free.
    Let local resturants design menus

    Any more...

They are??? I wish AC would feature more Canadian products, and decent ones in particular.

I for one believe AC food and wines, at present, leave much to be desired.

CP is being screwed-over by the catering company as the switch-over looms...
