Printer for Wordprocessing AND Digital Photo Printing

  • I'd like to purchase a printer around the $500.00 range. I am a student, so I have to produce a lot of reports. Beyond that, I'd like to print my own digital photos. I currently have an Epson Stylus 600 and I'd like to toss it to the bottom of the ocean. I don't want an Epson ever again. (1) What is the very best printer that I can buy? (2) How much would the laser printer version of it cost? Please do not respond with too many websites. Narrow it down to a few if possible. I'd actually would like you to tell me what to buy! Thank you.

  • I would have recommended you an Epson Stylus Photo for photo printing but unfortunately you don't like that brand anymore. It's different from an Epson Stylus 600. I love my Epson Photo Stylus 810 especially when printing photo-perfect printouts.

  • I have an EPSON photo stylus 875dcs. it stinks. epson bad.

  • Greetings Meimei1965! Let me start by saying thank you for putting your trust in our service. I'm an Epson user and I'm sad that you don't want to use that brand again. I wonder why? Is it the print out? The cost of the ink? Anyway, since you don't want it anymore, let us proceed directly to answering your questions: (1) What is the very best printer that I can buy? Your need defines what's best for you. This means that no matter what "best" printer is out there, if it doesn't fit your requirements, it's not the best for you. (2) How much would the laser printer version of it cost? Pardon me but this is sort of a "vague" question for me. I don't understand what you mean by "laser printer version of it". Since you want a researcher's opinion on this matter, I'll just base my comments mainly on your budget and your probable need. As much as possible, I'd like to make it a 2 for $500 deal to make it better for you. What I mean by "2 for $500" is 1 colored printer to make outstanding color presentations and nice printouts for your digicam, 1 laser printer for those black and white generaldocuments. So as not to complicate things for you by giving you too many websites, I'll just give you one reliable source -- CNET Reviews. I trust CNET for their reviews and before I buy a computer peripheral, I try to base my decision from their review. For ease of browsing, simply press the "Shift" key before clicking on a link so it will open a new window or right-click on the link and choose "Open in New Window" for your convenience. CNET Networks, Inc. CNET Reviews - Printers http://hwreviews.netscape.com/hardware/0-1063.html By the way, before I continue, I'd like to remind you that you always have the final decision. So even if I recommend something, you still have that option to change decision. With regards to the products, including the product description, etc., I'm in no way representing any product or company in this answer. The material serve only to inform you and help you to make your decision. Having said this, we can now continue on this matter. You can see that on the left side are printers in their respective price categories. We'll ignore that and proceed to "Editors' top products". Let's choose a nice inkjet printer for you so click here: Inkjet printers http://hwreviews.netscape.com/hardware/0-2645882-8-20758660-1.html?tag=tp Surprise! Number one on the list is Epson. Since you don't want it, shift your eyes to the HP Photosmart 7550: HP Photosmart 7550 http://hwreviews.netscape.com/hardware/0-2375165-404-20305392.html?tag=byline For excellent photos and good-looking general output, a good printer you for $258.00. Choose your price here: http://hwreviews.netscape.com/hardware/resellers/0-2375165-311-20305392-3.html?fl=0&tag=st.co.2375165-311-20305392.sort.price Depending on where you'll get the HP Photosmart 7550, you will probably have $242.00 for a laser printer such as the Samsung ML-1450: Samsung ML-1450 http://hwreviews.netscape.com/hardware/0-2375165-404-9001348.html?tag=byline Editor review says it has impressive text quality and excellent paper capacity. At 1200 x 1200 dpi output, I expect it to generate high resolution BW/Grayscale images too. It's a good buy based on the lowest listed price of $237.37. Choose your price here: http://hwreviews.netscape.com/hardware/resellers/0-2375165-311-9001348-3.html?fl=0&tag=st.co.2375165-311-9001348.sort.price So if you have $242.00 budget for this printer, you would still have $4.63 to spend on paper. :-) You can still lower the specs, but only on the laser printer. I wouldn't want you to waste the quality of your digital photos on some "low quality" inkjet printer. Just choose your laser printer based on price from the first link I gave you or choose here: Laser Printers $300 and under http://hwreviews.netscape.com/hardware/1,10121,0-2375165-402-0,00.html?tag=dir3-300&pn=1&ob=3&qt=&qn=&F1=3&F3=0&F4=6&F6=0&F7=0&F8=0&F10=0&sm=0 Don't worry, whatever you choose has been reviewed by CNET Reviews. Good luck on your purchase. You can still find more info by reading the results of the last link below.
