Cleveland High School Shooting
On 10/10/07 a 14 year old suspended student dressed in black opened fire in his downtown high school Wednesday. He wounded four schoolmates that hid in closets and bathrooms and huddled under laboratory desks. Lastly, He killed himself.
Students and others waited Wednesday outside the SuccessTech Academy in Cleveland, after a suspended student opened fire inside. Two students and two teachers were injured.
A student at SuccessTech Academy said Asa H. Coon, who had been suspended for fighting two days earlier, made threats in front of students and teachers last week.
Hes crazy. He threatened to blow up our school. He threatened to stab everybody, Doneisha LeVert said. We didnt think nothing of it.
Officials said that Asa was armed with two .38-caliber revolvers and that police found a duffel bag with ammunition and three knives in a bathroom. Parents were angry that firearms got into a school equipped with metal detectors that students said were intermittently used.
Classmate Antonio Deberry said he and his classmates hid under laboratory tables and watched the shooter move down the hallway. I saw him walking past. He didnt see us, we saw him. The shooter swore and shot several times, Antonio said. He had on a black Marilyn Manson concert shirt, black jeans and fingernails painted black.
The math teacher that was injured, was in fair condition. The other teacher was in surgery, but his condition was unknown. The two students that were injured were taken to a childrens hospital, but their names or conditions were not released to the public.
